A legend
continues ... The 12th of September, for the 9th year
in a row, the Splash Cup began.
Just by taking a glimpse of the program, you become excited
directly.
The Procenter bar turned into a Caipirinha cocktail lounge
where everyone chilled and enjoyed the opening night.
On Friday the official training started with the procenter
team as well as special guests Alex Humpel & Joshi
Markthaler who gave trim and jibe tips. Inspite of the
ususally stable weather conditions, there was a record
breaking amount of rain! Very often a single water bomb
triggered a heavy water war! The splashmaster team, Robert
& Patrick, have introduced the most recent line of
aqua weapon technologie. The next night at the melon twist
party, we were able to balance our vitamin levels again.
On Saturday, the regatta participants had a stable side-shore
and after a skippers meeting, there were 5 races around
the booey. The final 3 for the afternoon became in the
end the winners for the Splash Cup.
After the races it started to rain on the beach again
which turned later into a hail storm. The Splash Party
honoured its name, especialy because of the extraordinary
foam machine which helped one or the other to a spontanious
foam bath.
The second Regatta day, the red- sea appeared to be freshly
ironed out. Even with the biggest sail, we could do nothing
with it. So we started a 24hr fun race with interesting
disciplines and lots of fun. To tempt the wind we went
to papa´s beach club because somebody claimed that
every meter of beer brought 1BFT wind - so everybody ordered
a lot!
The 16th was dedicated to the future sponsor: Bacardi!
With all the competition for the races there suddenly
appeared a Bacardi Island which served as a beach bar
for the rest of the day. The Procenter team created a
magical BBQ which was a perfect change to the hotel food.
Afterwards we endid up on the beach with a Bongo-voodoo
challenge where everybody tried to show that there is
a musical genius hiding inside them.
On the 17th the wind finally reached the zero mark, so
for any volunteer, it was wakeboarding time on the sea.
On flat water, with a perfect wake, everybody could show
what he was able to do without a sail. The action wasn't
only on the water, it was also found later on in the most
beautiful sand dune in Hurghada. After everybody reached
the destination by quad bike, you could enjoy with a glass
of wine, the typical Egyptian sunset. In the same relaxed
atmosphere, the evening endid under the stars with the
procenter`s open air cinema.
Wednesday, the last day of splash cup, you could see that
the competitors were starting to feel worn out! In the
afternoon Joshi & Alex presented the new line of JP
& NP equipment. The JP test session was cut short
due to low wind. In any case, everyone was waiting for
the winners ceremony cause the procenter team had prepeared
everything for a long night. The winners podium was situated
in perfect access for splash action. DJ mada from the
chill, sent hot beats through the party! Every one partied
till...who knows!!!
The following day was departure for most of the participants.
We swapped aspirins and adresses to make appointments
for next years splash cup where noteverything is focused
on winning but of the spirit of surfing.
